In this amazing northeastern corner of Italy, Nature has given us the privilege to create an extraordinary expression of Pinot Grigio. We are surrounded by an incredible complexity of natural elements: the balance from the Adriatic Sea, the fresh winds from the East and the Alps, the heterogeneous soils. The magic of this wine starts in the vineyard, where the key is respect for the vine. In the winery, all we want to do is uncover our land’s soul, hidden in this golden wine just like a precious jewel.
A bud mutation of Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio is considered a variety on its own although they share the genetic profile. Native to Burgundy but made famous in Alsace, it came to Friuli in the second half of the 19th century, laying down its roots almost simultaneously in Piedmont, where the conditions were not ideal, and further East, finding its cradle in Friuli.
It’s a non-aromatic grape, with a compact cluster, small berries, and a skin that is thin but rich in polyphenols; it’s also easily affected by humidity and therefore a very delicate grape to grow. Precisely for these reasons – combined with shortsighted national agricultural policies and market trends rooted in the 50s – a perception of Pinot Grigio that was homogenized, with little character and color, transparent in each and every way, spread worldwide. An identity we have always refused.
The gifted Friulian terroir, combined with our meticulous work in the vineyards, encourages an impeccable ripening of the Pinot Grigio grapes, translating into a balanced and elegant wine with a strong personality.
